Report – 8th July 2012

Late May.

Stephen Jackson reports on Pyrenees Tour: “Pete Smith and Anne and I were in the Pyrenees late May /early June. Anne and I crossed from Perpignan to Biarritz and then picked up some other cyclists (amongst them Pete) and came back to Perpignan via the big cols. Weather was superb as usual. Pete tells me in the second week we did about 64,000 ft of climbing which sounds about right (more than twice up Everest from sea level. Anyway it wasn’t about the stats but the scenery and the French hospitality and the odd glass of wine!”

17th June, Polka Dot Challenge, 54 + 100 mile Sportive in Staffordshire / Derbyshire.

Stephen Jackson reports: “Just finished the Polkadot challenge in 7 hrs dead (and I was!). It was wet in the morning and blew a gale in the afternoon against us coming back but other than that fine and well organised. I saw Roy Hayhurst at about the 10-mile point but no one else from Congleton and don’t know any more times, however, I heard later that Edgar Reynolds also completed this ride, un accompanied, in 10 hours.”

Roy Hayhurst enjoyed the 54-miler and completed it in 4hrs 35mins
