Cycling Club celebrates
Annual Prize Presentation
Last
Sunday (7th), on a clear, crisp, winter evening, thirty six Club
Members and their friends celebrated the Cycling Year 2008 with their Annual Dinner
and Prize Presentation. Club Chairman, Bob Norton, introduced the Guest of
Honour, Ian Tierney, who is the Manager of Warrington-based, Cycling Projects.
This is a national charity which helps people who are disadvantaged due to
social exclusion on the basis of health / disability or economic situation, to
participate in gentle cycling activities. Bob Norton is Ian Tierney’s Assistant
at Cycling Projects.
The
unanimous opinion was that the choice of venue, the Pavilion in the Park, could
not have been bettered due to the excellent food, the professional and friendly
service and to the tasteful, seasonal décor. The occasion was further enlivened
with a very large and lively raffle.
The

Joyce
Austin, Ian Tierney, Bob Norton, Tony Elliott, Dan Taylor, Edgar Reynolds, Rob
Waghorn, Denise Hurst, Mary Renshaw, Karl Austin, Peter Nelson, David Hurst,
Roy Lancaster and Doug Taylor.
Rob
Waghorn was in his element replying on behalf of the Prize-Winners as he took
the opportunity to tell many home-truths (but had to suffer some reposts on the
way).
Bob
Norton presented bouquets to two hard-working ladies: Joyce Austin, for her
organisation of the Club time-trials from March to September and to Beryl Swash
for her organisation of all the social events, of which the Annual Dinner is
the highlight. Bob Dale was also given special Thanks for his support of the
Club time-trials.
