Enjoyable and Energetic
Weekend in North Wales
Eleven
club members had an enjoyable and energetic weekend in North Wales. Denise
Hurst, Bob Norton and Peters Nelson and Hayhurst rode out on Friday in warm,
sunny weather (except for the last hour), via Malpas (for elevenses), Bangor-on-Dee,
Ruabon then Llangollen (for lunch) and then along the Dee Valley via Rhewl,
Corwen and Cerrig-y-Drudion to the Bunkhouse at Cefn-brith. They were joined in
the evening by the motorised workers: Georgina Norton, Beryl Swash, David Hurst
and Linda and Karl Austin. Everyone enjoyed the comfortable accommodation and
the hostess, Linda’s hospitality and good food.
The
Saturday ride was via Pentrefoelas, Nebo, Llanrwst (for elevenses by the
bridge) then to Conwy (for lunch near the castle). The return ride was via
Colwyn Bay (with some rain) and over the tops to Nebo and Pentrefoelas where
the changing weather conditions provided spectacular views. The group was
expanded in the evening by the arrival of Angela and Doug Taylor whose Snowden
hike was postponed due to bad weather.
On
Sunday, Linda and Karl Austin extended their stay and did a circular bike tour
to Bala and back. Angela and Doug Taylor conquered Snowdon on foot, under clear
blue skies and warm sunshine. Denise Hurst, Bob Norton and Peter Hayhurst’s
return ride was under the same summer-like conditions via Ruthin, Llay, Holt
(for lunch) and then Duddon, Utkinton, Calverley (for tea) then Church Minshull
and Middlewich. The support team (with the rider’s luggage) had a leisurely
drive home.
