Congleton
Cycling Club
Ladies First…. (again)
Last
Saturday (13th), four members: Denise Hurst and Mary
Renshaw, Karl Austin and Edgar Reynolds raced in the Stretford Wheelers 25-mile
Time Trial on the local Chelford – Toft -Cranage circuit in excellent autumnal
weather. Mary Renshaw
won the 1st Lady on actual time with 1:05:25 and Denise Hurst was 2nd
Lady on actual time and 1st Lady Veteran on Standard (Handicap) in
1:08:46. So, Happy Faces here! Our male Veterans, Karl Austin and Edgar
Reynolds recorded 1:02:00 and 1:06:22 respectively. Our males were very pleased
with the Ladies’ performances.
On Saturday
(13th) Rob Waghorn rode another 200k AUDAX – but this time “solo” - from
Congleton via Mold, Corwen and Llangollen and return.
The Sunday
(14th) Club-Run was a gentle 50-miler, in pleasant conditions, to
Priest’s Café in Audlem.
Last
Wednesday (10th), the Tour of Britain finished in Hanley and there
was a Points Sprint in Stone. Denise Hurst and Pete Nelson rode to Stone via
Woore and Eccleshall to see the Sprint and Peter Hall and Peter Hayhurst met in
Hanley at the Finish Line. Large crowds turned out, partly due to the good
weather and partly due to the media interest in all things “cycling”. Top Class
racing was ensured by the many international teams but the “Brits” performed
well with Steve Cummings (of the Wirral) finishing a creditable 2nd
overall in Liverpool.
