Congletonians enjoy Salford Nocturne

Last Saturday (27th), five Club Members, Georgina and Bob Norton, Denise and David Hurst and Rob Waghorn, attended the Salford Nocturne as race/crowd control marshals. They all had a great time, none more so than Denise. She got to "touch" Chris Hoy as he walked past amidst a group of minders. They met Ed Clancy and Paul Manning and got to handle Ed Clancy's gold medal. Perhaps the highlight of the day came right at the end when they were all chatting with Rob Hayles inside the Lowry. Denise popped the question "will you be our guest speaker at the Congleton presentation". He said yes, provided that we did not mind waiting for confirmation of his winter schedule!

The racing was good as well. The elite event was won by Ian Wilkinson of SIS. There was also a support race of cat 2/3/4 riders and a corporate team challenge as well as a folding bike race. There was a roller challenge going on as well over 500m. Craig McLean did about 18.9 secs. Chris Hoy in shirt and rolled up jeans did 19.4. On the Time Trial scene, Edgar Reynolds achieved his 2008 target of 2hrs 17 mins in the Holme Valley “50” in Yorkshire.

On Sunday (31st), five members, Denise and David Hurst, Georgina and Bob Norton and Stephen Kane, went out on the Clubrun to the marina at Cholmondeston. Karl Austin managed 240 miles in the Welsh “12-hour” around Abergavenny.

Last Wednesday (27th), Denise, Rob and Bob completed the Staffordshire Peak Super Grimpeur Audax. 2800 meters of ascent in 110 kms!.

Bob Norton set off to the Pyrenees on Wednesday (3rd) for 12 days as assistant leader on the CTC Pyrenean Traverse which is 28 cols with 18000 metres of ascent in 12 days over 850 kms. We hope that he enjoys the scenery / company / weather / food etc to compensate for the hours of suffering on the climbs!
