Congletonians
blown away in 12-hour Time Trial
The Club’s
weekly Time Trials continued on Tuesday 5th August with a 10-miler
on the Gawsworth course. The fastest Congleton rider was Brendan McLaughlin in 23
minutes and 40 seconds, followed by Tony Elliott with 24:45, then Pete Nelson
with 26:30 followed by Denise Hurst with 27.11. The leader board, with only two
events remaining, shows Karl Austin (who missed the last two events) still on
155 points, Tony Elliot closing-in with 150 points and then a close competition
for third place between Brendan McLaughlin and Pete Nelson with 98 and 97
points respectively.
Last
Sunday (10th), five Club Members competed in the West Cheshire
12-Hour Time Trial, which counts towards the Manchester & District
Championship. Due to the very windy conditions, our members’ distances were
below their Personal Bests with Pete Nelson recording 183 miles, Edgar Reynolds
- 195 miles, Karl Austin - 241 miles and Neil Skellern - 267 miles. Denise
Hurst, our novice 12-hour rider, did a great ride of 193 miles! Skellern’s ride
earned him 2nd place, Austin’s ride earned him 5th place
and our top three riders amassed 703 miles for 2nd place in the Team
Competition. The event winner was Andy Wilkinson of Port Sunlight Wheelers,
with almost 289 miles – a splendid performance by the former long-distance
Champion who only rides the occasional race but supported his club to win the
Team Prize!!
Rob Waghorn
rode another 200K AUDAX last Saturday, - the Tamworth C.C. “Wem We Get There” –
to Wem and back. The windy and very wet conditions made it tough for the 30
riders.
