Club
Time Trial Season continues
The Club’s weekly
10-mile Time Trials continued on the last Tuesday in April and the first
Tuesday in May. In the April event, fourteen riders, including six from Leek
C.C., recorded slower times over previous weeks’ efforts, due to the strong
wind. The fastest Congleton rider was Karl Austin in 23 minutes 21 seconds,
followed by Andy Malbon with 25:06, Tony Elliott with 25:54, Steve Sladin with
28:25. and Peter Nelson with 29:57.
In the May
event, twenty two riders, including eleven from Leek C.C., enjoyed a
“summer-like” evening with Karl Austin being the fastest Congleton rider in 23
minutes 26 seconds, followed by Tony Elliott in 25:05, closely followed by Andy
Malbon in 25:12 and then the “older generation” of Pete Nelson in 27:37 and
Peter Hayhurst in 27:47.
The
previous Sunday, Karl Austin flew the club colours in his first 50-mile T.T. of
the season, on the Prees course in Shropshire putting in a good performance, in
spite of the wet and windy conditions, in recording 2 hours 7 minutes. Last
Saturday, three members rode the Dunkinfield “50-miles” on the local course, in
warm and calm conditions. Neil Skellern was 3rd fastest of the men
in 1 hour 56 minutes, Karl Austin followed in 2 hours 1 minute and Lynne
Skellern was 4th lady in 2 hours 26 minutes. Pete Nelson rode the
Yorkshire “30-miles” at Boroughbridge, recording 1 hour 24 minutes to beat his
personal standard time.
