Congleton Cyclists survive 30 mile Hilly Reliability
Ride
Last
Sunday, 6 Club Members and 24 guest riders survived the Club’s 30 mile ride
through the very hilly parts of Cheshire which included eleven very steep
climbs and their corresponding descents..
The “Fast”
group comprising Neil Skellern, Mark Tilstone, Mark Dooley and Andy Malbon and
the “Slow” group comprising Denise Hurst, Peter Nelson, Bob Norton, Stephen
Kane, Doug and Dan Taylor plus 12 guests, mostly from Leek C.C. started at 9
a.m. and proceeded via Blacky Bank, The Bridestones, Rushton Spencer,
Swythamley and Bearda Hill to Danebridge and Wincle and over to Wildboarclough
where the rain commenced. This made the steep climb (into the head wind) up to
the Plague Stone and the Hanging Gate very hard indeed. Standing Stones was the
next big obstacle followed by the run along Wildboarclough to Allgreave, then
up to Fourways, The Dumbas, round Bosley
Reservoir and Wood Treatment Works, up the Cloud to Timbersbrook and back
through Buglawton via Pedley Lane.
On the
AUDAX front, Rob Waghorn completed his 4th 200k ride of this year in
doing the Cheadle to Newport event in 10 hours, together with another 82
riders.
