Congleton
Cycling Club
The second
of Congleton C.C.'s 2008 Reliability Trials took place on Sunday 20th Jan. The
idea of Reliability Trials is to ride a set route within specified target times.
This second event was 65 miles, with the objective of completing the route at
12.5 or 15 mph. For 2008 all the club’s reliability routes have been redesigned
by Karl Austin, to use lanes and minor roads, avoiding the A roads as much as
possible. Sunday’s ride took the riders via Brereton Heath, Middlewich, Church
Minshull, Little Budworth, Utkinton, Kelsall then through Delamere Forest to
Acton Bridge, then Comberbach, Great Budworth and back to Congleton via Tabley,
Knutsford, Lower Peover, Lower Withington and Hulme Walfield.
A damp and
windy but very mild day faced the 21 riders leaving the Rugby Club at 9 o’clock.
Two riders from Macclesfield Wheelers joined our Congleton C.C. members but the
Leek C.C. riders did not participate due to their Prize Presentation Lunch. The
main group quickly split up into the headwind, with riders forming smaller
groups for the rest of the ride. All completed the route at the required
speed with the fast group of seven riders, headed by Neil Skellern, completing
the route in 3hr 50 mins at an average speed of 17.2 mph.
