Congleton
Cycling Club
The club’s
“Time-Trialists” had another successful season, especially at the longer
distances (duration) of 12- and 24-Hour which count towards the CTT (Cycling
Time Trials) BAR (British Best All-Rounder) and Long Distance BAR and VTTA
(Veterans Time Trial Association – over 40 years) year long Competitions and
one day Championships.
Without
disrespect to our able group of slower riders – including women and older men -
our most successful rider was again Neil Skellern who secured 10th
place in the prestigious national BAR Competition. Indeed, Neil has been in the
top 10 during each of the past 4 years. His average speed for his best 50 and
100 miles and 12-hour performances was 25.48mph. He was ably supported by Karl
Austin in 44th place and Giudo (sic) Reynolds in118th place.
These performances resulted in this trio achieving 7th place the
Team BAR with an average speed of 23.47mph. To put these performances into
perspective; our riders are 43, 43 and 59 years of age respectively and were
competing against more than 500 qualifying riders, many of them half their age.
Due to being over-40, they qualify for the Veterans category which has its own
BAR and Championships – details to be covered in future reports.
The CTT
National 24-Hour Championship is nowadays a single event which is always held
in Cheshire / Shropshire. Our Club trio of Karl Austin, Graham Barker and Giudo
Reynolds achieved 2nd place in the Team Competition with 9th,
13th and 20th places, with 439, 428 and 412 miles respectively.
Unfortunately, Neil did not complete the 24-hour due to sickness.
The above
performances yielded more honours and higher placings in the Area Championships
(CTT Manchester and District TTA and
VTTA – Manchester and North West Group).
