Monday 1st December 2003 – 8pm to 10pm

ere’s your chance to ride on a world-class track. You don’t need to have ridden on a track before – we have a qualified coach from the Velodrome who will take you through the basic track skills. These evenings are now a regular feature on the Club calendar and the previous ones have been much enjoyed by all.

Y

ou can hire a proper fixed-wheel track bike for the evening from the Velodrome. Frame sizes range from 19.5" to 23.5" (centre-to-top). The bikes are kitted out with Look pedals only. Look shoes are also available for hire, or you can use normal trainers with toe-clip inserts. Helmets are essential.

T

he cost of the evening will be £8 to ride, plus £7 for bike hire, plus £2 for shoe hire (as required). This needs to be paid in advance please (cheques payable to Congleton CC) together with any frame and shoe sizes.

Y

ou should aim to get to the Velodrome between 7:30 and 7:45pm. This will give time for collecting bikes, adjusting saddle height, signing on, etc. The coach will want us all ready to start riding at 8pm. There are plenty of changing rooms and showers for riders. Spectators are very welcome.

T

o get there from Congleton, take A34 to Manchester and from Kingsway onwards follow the signs for the National Cycling Centre. Cross the A6 at Levenshulme, look out for the huge Asda supermarket, and then turn right off the dual carriageway opposite the new Manchester City stadium. Drive round to the back of the Velodrome and use the competitor’s entrance at car park level. [Map]
