Club Annual Dinner & Prize Presentation at Astbury Golf Club
Fifty Members and Friends enjoyed this new venue (for us). Not only was the food and wine (by kind donation) and the service top class but the room and its furnishings were very comfortable – so we were all grateful to our Social Sectretary, Georgina Norton, for her excellent organisation. Our Chairman, Bob Norton welcomed our Guest of Honour, Champion Long-Distance Time Triallist, Lynne Taylor, who complimented our Club on its friendliness and also on its long-distance riders, especially Karl Austin, whom she knew so well. The Trophy for the Most Improved Rider was awarded to “novice” David McVitie who made rapid progress from Social Rides to Time Trials in his first season. Darren Nicholls, our new Racing Secretary, got off to a flying start with the collection and awarding of the many Trophies, Medals, Plaques and Certificates. The winner of most trophies was Neil Skellern (as usual) who thanked all Club Members on behalf of all Prizewinners for their support throughout 2011. It was no surprise but only via a secret vote, that the Clubman–of-the-Year Trophy was awarded to Bob Norton due to his continued excellent Chairmanship of the Club, his participation in Club rides and leading CTC Tours in France but also because of his (and Georgina’s) support given to the Austin and Dean Families in this sad year.

New Year’s Day Walk from Brereton Country Park
Twelve Members / Family Members burnt many festive calories climbing and slip-sliding through the Dane Valley between Davenport Hall, Saltersford and Swettenham so the rest and nourishment at the Swettenham Arms was really appreciated by all.
They were welcomed at the 10 a.m. start at Brereton Country Park by a heavy downpour but this eased after a while, so when not looking into the deep mud, they could enjoy the countryside views until the rain recommenced whilst they were in the Arms – but the friendly banter continued throughout!
Weekend – 7th / 8th January
Hopey New Year, 100K AUDAX from Bradwell
Denise Hurst rode this annual event with its 1750m of climbing, most of it into a headwind! From Bradwell (near Hope), the route went via Bakewell, Ashbourne, Windy Ridge, Warslow, Longnor, Glutton and Tideswell, back to Bradwell.
Club-Run to Redhouse Farm, Dunham Massey
Georgina and Bob Norton, Denise Hurst, Roy Hayhurst and Wayne Powell rode via Swettenham, Lower Withington, Bate Mill, Knoll Green, Ashley, Bucklow Hill and Little Bollington to this popular café. The return route was via Broomedge, Bucklow Hill, Tatton Park, Knutsford, Bate Mill, Lower Withington. They managed the 62 miles at a good pace. The weather was overcast but not cold on the way out but they endured very heavy drizzle on the return, so got “a bit damp”.
